Are you researching your family history and found it’s led you to Rutland?

Continue to explore and investigate your ancestors and the stories from their past by visiting our substantial local studies and family history collection at the Rutland County Museum in Oakham.

Rutland County Museum houses numerous reference materials taking you deep into the life and times of rural life, farming communities, tales of local history and records of crime and punishment! There’s a general Family History section (small loan collections are held in Rutland Libraries) and microfilm/fiche records, including census returns and parish registers, for you to use your detective skills.

Historic Rutland newspapers are available on microfilm and, together with a selection of maps and newspaper cuttings, you’ll have plenty of help on hand to research your family history and uncover the secrets of the past!
