Offering a great family day out, Sykes Lane is home to a fantastic enclosed adventure playground, which is shaded by trees to avoid summer heat.
Make sure you pop into the informative Rutland Water Visitor Centre & Gift Shop. You will find lots to be learned; with items telling the history of the reservoir, and explaining the wildlife on the nature reserve, not forgetting the array of local information you can pick up to plan your time in the area, alongside maps, cycle routes, souvenirs and gifts.
Pick up some clubs for the 12 hole mini golf course and enjoy a bit of competitive family fun.
Summer Beach
The 1st inland bathing water in England to have a Seaside Award, the Rutland Water beach provides 140 metres of sandy shoreline and a 2,800m2 area for you to paddle and swim in.
The beach is only open when a lifeguard is present. Sykes Lane offers a great place to bring the family, with a mix of green space to run in, sand to dig in and water to paddle in.
Please bear in mind the beach is seasonal and is only operational in the summer months.
What's at Sykes Lane
Take your bikes / scooters /pushchairs and stroll across the dam, then back for the obligatory ice-cream stop at the seasonal refreshment kiosk next to the visitor centre. Or venture to either cafes at Normanton (5 mile round trip) or Whitwell (3 mile round trip) which are open all year round.
Sykes Lane also has a specified enclosed dog walking area where you can let your canines off the lead.
Rumble Live Action Gaming is less than a 5 minute walk from the carpark and is an award-winning live action gaming arena offering outdoor laser tag with state of the art equipment in beautiful woodlands.
The neighbouring Whitwell site also has activities to help entertain the family.
