New £3 pint offer launches Monday -Friday from opening until 5pm, because somebody had to do it.
While politicians in Westminster have spent plenty of time talking about cheaper pints, The Vaults in Uppingham has decided to skip the speeches and actually pour them.
From now on, Monday – Friday from opening until 5pm, customers at The Vaults can enjoy a proper pint for just £3.
Yes, really. In 2026. During a cost-of-living crunch. In a world where just about everything else seems to be getting more expensive by the minute.
According to BBC reports, 161 pubs shut their doors in the first quarter of 2026 alone. That’s the equivalent of two pubs a day disappearing from Britain’s high streets, villages, and communities.
At the very moment hospitality businesses are battling soaring energy bills, wage increases, supplier costs many publicans are wondering who exactly is supposed to keep the great British pub alive.
The hospitality industry has long argued that tax relief and VAT reform could provide real breathing room for pubs, bars, and restaurants fighting to survive. Statistics from UK Hospitality show that the average VAT rate in Europe is 12.8% whereas in England it’s 20%. In Ireland, their last budget saw VAT rate for hospitality reduced from 13.5% to 9% effective July 2026. Comparatively in England, many venues are being left to shoulder the burden themselves.
Which raises a fair question: if cheaper pints were part of the political promise, why does it seem to be Britain’s pubs, not its politicians, delivering the manifesto?
At The Vaults, this isn’t about grandstanding. It’s about stepping up for the local community at a time when pubs themselves are under threat.
“We heard the promises about cheaper pints coming,” said James Torbell, Director of Wills Inns. “And while we can’t do much about national policy, we can do something for our own customers. So, we’ve taken the hit ourselves to make it happen, not because it’s easy, but because the community deserves a break.”
The new £3 pint window is available Monday – Friday from opening time until 5pm, offering locals, workers, and visitors the chance to enjoy a more affordable trip to the pub before evening prices kick in.
At a time when many pubs are being forced to raise prices just to keep the lights on, The Vaults is taking a slightly rebellious and refreshingly generous approach.
So, while the government keeps debating the cost of a pint, Uppingham residents can simply head to The Vaults and see one for themselves.
The promise was cheaper pints.
The Vaults just got on with it.
