Rolling hills, busy hedgerows, wildflowers swaying Rolling hills, busy hedgerows, wildflowers swaying in the breeze and the gentle hum of nature - there’s something quietly magical about the English countryside in spring.

Today marks St George’s Day, a celebration of all things quintessentially English. The day has been observed for over a thousand years, honouring Saint George, best known for the legendary tale of slaying a dragon, a story that symbolises courage, hope, and resilience.

It’s a day to celebrate not just history, but the simple beauty of this land, where every footpath offers something new and every horizon draws the eye.

Today is National Curlew Day so let’s celebrate on Today is National Curlew Day so let’s celebrate one of the UK’s most distinctive and characterful birds!

With their long, curved bills and wonderfully atmospheric calls, the Eurasian curlew is a real highlight of wetlands and open landscapes.

If you’re near Rutland Water, you’ve got a great chance of experiencing them at their best during spring and autumn, when they pass through on migration. You’ll often spot them around the lagoons and grassy edges, feeding or resting.

Listen out for their famous call, a wild and evocative sound that carries across the landscape.
