Farm Shops
During your visit to Rutland, take the short drive to Northfield Farm. This wonderful Farm Shop opened in 1997 and supplies both its own produce from the farm and produce from various suppliers. Believing passionately in supplying traceability and excellence of its food, Northfield Farm makes all their own multi-award-winning steaks, burgers and sausages on-site, curing and cooking their award-winning salt beef and dry curing their own bacon.
Local’s cannot get enough of Farmer Lou’s Farm Shop for their home-grown meat, poultry, farmhouse pies, artisan burgers, craft sausages & much more! Everything can be tailored to your needs, any cut can be butchered, and any flavour of sausage and burger can be made making your visit hassle-free and resulting in the perfect products to be enjoyed once you’re back home.
New Lodge Farm shop to the south of Rutland is also full of local produce and goodies from their neck-of-the-woods and their very own butchery, which can be bought to take home, or enjoyed in their café.
With quality and provenance at affordable prices being its primary objective, Gates Farm Shop promises customers a true farm-to-fork experience. The Farm Shop features a large butchery by Hambleton Farms, with all meat coming from a small select group of farmers, and beef and lamb being supplied from stock bred and raised on Gates’ own farm. Other departments include a delicatessen, cheese counter, an artisan bakery, seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables, craft beers, wines and spirits, and a self-service dispensary featuring artisan oils, vinegar and dry goods. And with all the usual store cupboard and fridge staples also being available, Gates Farm Shop truly is a one-stop shop.
Markets
Make a date to visit Oakham or Uppingham weekly markets to indulge in the most amazing selection of fruits, meats, vegetables, charcuterie, pickles, cakes, bread, flowers, plants, cheeses and much, much more. It’s an educating and nourishing trip out for the whole family to experience true rural life, whilst getting to meet some of our farming families. Oakham weekly markets are held every Wednesday and Saturday and the Uppingham market is held every Friday.
Local Produce
The Dairy Barn Café specialises in creating their own ice cream using their own milk from their own herd of cows, which graze on the Rutland border. Their farm-based café, with a children’s play area, is the perfect spot to enjoy a few scoops of their various flavours, plus there is a dedicated viewing window to watch the ice cream Chef at work.
With the abundance of wildflowers and hedgerows in Rutland, locally produced honey is a wonderful gift to purchase and take home with you. Look out for Oakham Honey, available at Otters Fine Foods in Mill Street, Oakham. Keep your eyes peeled as you drive around the beautiful villages and country lanes for signs inviting you to stop for a while and buy local honey, fresh eggs, tasty fruit and vegetables from a multitude of Rutland gardens, allotments and smallholdings.

The Herb Nursery, a small, traditional, family-run nursery specialises in herbs but offers much more including wildflowers, cottage garden plants and scented-leaf Pelargoniums. They have an extensive range of herbs and kitchen garden goodies and supply many local restaurants.
