Originally created by Geoff Hamilton for the Gardeners’ World TV show, Barnsdale is home to 38 pocket-sized, themed garden ‘rooms’, built in his trademark, practical style, and full of inspiration for garden-lovers of all ages. Go for great ideas for your own outside spaces or simply have fun exploring- there magical hidden corners, ponds full of tadpoles and newts, and an allotment with chickens and giant organically grown veg. Watch hundreds of birds on feeders scattered throughout the site, relax by a sunny border buzzing with bees and butterflies, or enjoy a slap-up lunch or afternoon tea out on the lawn- food is fresh, seasonal and locally produced, and there are nursery favourites and free activity sheets to keep the kids happy. Hit the gift shop and nursery for a spot of exclusive retail therapy or join in the fun at one of the FREE weekend activity days– this year there’s wildlife watching and family nature trails, special interest days for all kinds of gardeners, Easter and Halloween activities and much, much more- visit the Barnsdale Gardens website for all the latest news.

Approaching Oakham on A6003 from Uppingham: turn right onto A606 at the first roundabout. Proceed along this road for approximately 2 miles. Turn left at Barnsdale Lodge Hotel towards Exton and our entrance is then 1 mile on the left. Approaching Oakham on A606 from Melton Mowbray: continue on A606 through Oakham, turn left at the roundabout towards Stamford and Barnsdale. After approximately 2 miles turn left at Barnsdale Lodge Hotel towards Exton- our entrance is 1 mile on the left. Approaching Oakham on A606 from Stamford: continue through Empingham and Whitwell. After approximately 1/4 mile from Whitwell turn right at The Barnsdale Hotel towards Exton – our entrance is 1 mile on the left.
