In 2014, we celebrated 40 years in business as a wholesale plant nursery, so we decided to open our most ambitious project yet – the Garden Centre and Café. Focusing on a wide range of plants and core elements of gardening.
Spanhoe Lodge is situated in the East Northamptonshire Village of Laxton, just 2 miles from the Rutland Border and the Welland Valley Viaduct. Close to market towns of Oakham, Uppingham and Stamford, and near to Rutland Water Nature Reserve. Surrounded by the rolling landscapes of South Rutland and just moments from the shores of Rutland Water, we offer the perfect base for countryside walks, scenic bike rides, or simply a few days at an easier pace. In May 2023 we opened ‘The View’, a new 100-seater restaurant with panoramic views across stunning Rutland Water to the hills beyond.
Lovingly restored and at the head of a tree lined avenue, The Barnsdale located to the North of Oakham, has undergone a recent refurbishment and is now the newest addition to The Signet Collection.
The magic of Tolethorpe is something special which we highly recommend you experience for yourselves. Enjoy a picnic in the beautiful grounds in front of Tolethorpe Hall, then take your seat in the covered auditorium, and see an open-air stage like no other, with amateur productions from the extremely talented Stamford Shakespeare Company.
Make sure you pop into the interactive and informative Rutland Water Visitor Centre & Gift Shop at Sykes Lane near Empingham. You will find lots to be learned; with items telling the history of the reservoir, and explaining the wildlife on the nature reserve, not forgetting the array of local information you can pick up to plan your time in the area, alongside maps, cycle routes, souvenirs and gifts.
The George Inn has been a feature of Oakham’s historic marketplace since the late 16th century. Bought in 2022, the new owners are lovingly restoring this cosy coaching inn to its former glory, and invite you to drop by for a meal, coffee or an evening drink:
