Much of Rutland was once the Royal Forest of Leighfield - a vast Norman royal hunting ground that shaped our landscape for centuries. Though disafforested in the 1600’s, small ancient remnants like Prior’s Coppice and Stoke Dry Wood still stand today.

On #InternationalDayOfForests, we celebrate Rutland’s woodland heritage, past and present, and the importance of protecting what’s left for future generations.
