WHAT IS DISCOVER RUTLAND?
Discover Rutland is a not-for-profit Destination Management Organisation (DMO) that exists to promote Rutland as a tourist destination, not only to people outside the county but those within it too.
We are made up of a team of volunteers who live and run businesses in the county and who dedicate their time to ensuring it is represented fully on a national and local scale.
We also have a part-time tourism officer, Mary Copley who sits within Rutland County Council, to keep us all on track and ensure we are staying in communication with, and supported by, the local council at all times.
The tourism officer and all our activity are funded by our members, who each pay an annual fee to be promoted by us as part of our strategic communications – from advertising in our bi-annual brochure to itineraries in the national media.
DID YOU KNOW not all of our members are tourism businesses? We also have associate members who want to support us in promoting our beautiful county. Find out more about our memberships.
WHO MANAGES DISCOVER RUTLAND?
Discover Rutland is structured in two tiers. First is our hard-working “management committee” who each head up an area of interest – from marketing and PR to memberships – and who meet once a month to discuss strategic planning for Discover Rutland (we’ll be telling you a bit more about them over on our social media channels).
They are supported by a full “board” of members who meet once a year to discuss matters arising in Rutland and how we can continue to promote ourselves and the area. Members of the full board also make up various sub-committees to work on specific areas with the management committee, whether that’s events, promotional material or finances.
DID YOU KNOW we’re always on the lookout for more board members. If you’d like to find out more about supporting us on a strategic level, please get in touch.
WHAT DO WE DO?
We hope that by reading this you’ve found our website and, if you haven’t already, we hope you’ll take a good look around at the destinations and businesses we have listed. You can even build your own Rutland itinerary, so that if you see somewhere or something you fancy, you can save it for later.
Ensuring our website is up-to-date has always been a priority for us and we make regular updates to account for new media and content that will appeal to today’s visitors.
We also create a brochure twice a year with the support of local business – Nimble Media – who ensure we’re selling Rutland as a destination of choice.
But we don’t just stop at Rutland, we’ve been involved with national projects over the years by teaming up with other DMOs and ensuring Rutland has a voice at a strategic level.
And to top it off, we know how to throw a good party. We put on events throughout the year such as Rutland Food and Drink Week and The Discover Rutland Ball, as well as supporting local events to make sure Rutland is represented internationally, as well as at home.
DID YOU KNOW that once a year we also host a Discover Rutland Tourism Forum to give members of Discover Rutland and members of public an insight into what we’ve been up to over the last year. Our next forum will be held online on November 30th, 2020, at 11am and is open to all. Register for tickets here.
