Spring has sprung in Rutland, and with it comes a vibrant calendar of events bursting with something for everyone! With the weather getting warmer many of Rutland’s attractions are launching and there is plenty to do whether it is a lone adventure or out and about with the family.

Fineshade Wood – The Gruffalo Sculpture Trail

If you are a fan of the book “The Gruffalo”, you can enjoy an exciting adventure at Fineshade Wood. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the beloved book, visitors can embark on a Gruffalo Sculpture Trail, seeking out hand-carved sculptures of the characters. The festivities include finding party items, selecting a present for the Gruffalo, and engaging in woodland activities. Trail party packs are available for purchase, containing accessories, activities and prizes for the kids. This easily accessible trail is perfect for those with littler legs, or anyone looking for something a bit more laid back that takes in the beautiful surroundings. Fineshade Wood caters to diverse interests, with cycling routes for older kids, walking trails for all abilities, and a wildlife hide for nature enthusiasts. It promises a delightful day out for the entire family, blending bedtime stories with outdoor adventures for children and inclusive activities for older members.

Burghley House – South Gardens Spring Opening

The beautiful seasonal displays of Burghley’s South Gardens are out in all their spring glory. They are only open for a handful of weeks each year so don’t miss this opportunity to visit these gorgeous gardens! These 28-acre gardens boast stunning seasonal displays including blooming flowers and picturesque views of the lake and Lion Bridge. Don’t miss the chance to explore the Summer House, Oak Circle, and other delights while supporting the Evergreen Care Trust.

Rumble Action Live – Now Open!

The award-winning live-action gaming arena is back for the season! Open from March to November, Rumble Live Action Gaming offers outdoor laser tag for adults and children aged 8 and above (6-7-year-olds allowed with an accompanying adult), meaning you can enjoy fun for all the family this spring!

The Rutland Belle – Now Sailing!

The Rutland Belle is now open and cruising around Rutland Water from April to October. Rutland Water Cruises is a family-run business, operating these boat trips since 1986. This half-term and beyond you can now enjoy the scenery from the water amidst the sailers, angers and waterbirds while listening to captivating commentary. You can continue to support local businesses aboard as the Rutland Belle has a fully licensed bar, including a selection of gins from Multum Gin Parvo.

Burghley Beastly Boring Tours

Don’t let the name deceive you, Burghley House is offering guided tours with a difference. History comes to life as the costumed guides provide a unique tour aimed primarily at 6-11-year-olds but can be fun for all the family. A Beastly Boring Tour reveals all the grizzly, gruesome, horrible history associated with the house and its residents. It also provides access to the House, Gardens, Adventure Play and a guidebook full of facts and games.

Whether you’re a long-time resident or a first-time visitor, let’s make the most of Spring, as Rutland is bursting with life this April! From family fun trails to thrill-seeking days, there is an adventure for everyone, however,  if these highlights haven’t sparked your curiosity, fear not! Rutland has plenty more experiences and events waiting to be discovered.
