Looking for accommodation near Rutland? Clematis Cottages has an enviable position on a hilltop with views of rolling countryside, fields and forests to the north of the beautiful Market Town of Stamford. It is the ideal location for a ‘get away from it all’ holiday or short break. However, Clematis Cottages provide guests with so much more than a simple place to stay as they offer a wedding venue, artisan food, an abundance of wildlife and lots of activities to keep you busy!
Wildlife
The team at Clematis Cottages have always been passionate about developing a haven for wildlife. They are committed to creating a habitat where birds and local nature can thrive which has seen them develop a series of lakes and wetland habitats attracting a huge variety of species into the gardens for everyone to enjoy. These range from ducks, reed warblers, deer, badgers, foxes, and rabbits…even some spectacular dragon and damselflies! They have also installed four hedgehog boxes and two barn owl boxes which have been used for the last three years and have seen many owlets successfully fledge.
To enable guests to take full advantage of the above, there are secluded seating areas all around the site where you can relax. There are also two beautiful summerhouses, and wildlife hides so guests can take in the tranquil surroundings and enjoy watching the countryside’s comings and goings.
Activities
Clematis Cottages provide guests with so much more than a simple place to stay to explore Rutland’s attractions, there are a host of activities onsite to keep you busy on those days when you don’t feel like venturing out. There is something for everyone…
If you’re the active type, the front garden includes its own “pitch and put” golf, where you can practice your swing and chipping skills.
If you’re the inquisitive type, they have their own apiary on-site and offer introductory beekeeping courses to guests staying in the cottages.
If you’re the nature-loving type, many guests bring along their bat detectors as the environment in the garden is perfect for attracting many varieties, and have even included sightings of a serotine bat- rarely seen this far north!
Country Kitchen Creations
If artisan food products tickle your fancy, Clematis Cottages has recently launched a range of chutneys, piccalilli, preserves and artisan jellies – ‘Country Kitchen Creations’. Their products can be found stocked in local shops and also supply garden centres and restaurants too. Fruit and veg boxes can also be ordered (subject to availability) so that you can enjoy everything freshly picked straight from the garden when you arrive or take one home with you when you leave.
All of the products are available for guests to purchase while staying in the cottages themselves, and they make the perfect present for friends and family back home. You could even supply them as delicious gifts for guests at your wedding…
Weddings
Clematis Cottages has been the venue for various bespoke, boutique weddings; there is a dedicated area on the oak tree-lined 2 ½ acre front garden for a marquee and supporting equipment you may need such as generators and chillers. Better yet, there are so many shapes/layouts to choose from with the space provided, you can truly make your special day personal to you.
The rest of the gardens make for a beautiful area for guests to have wedding photographs taken with stunning sunsets over the surrounding countryside.
Accommodation on-site is essential for the wedding party and we offer all our cottages as part of the package.
