SUMMARY:Ken Matsuzaki | Ceramics Exhibition 2025
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday 29th November 2025 for our 8th major exhibition of ceramics by Japanese potter Ken Matsuzaki. We are delighted that Ken will be joining on the opening day and will be in conversation with Mike Goldmark at 2pm. Still experimenting and pushing his creativity\, the show will include exciting new forms and glazes. \nKen Matsuzaki\, born in Tokyo (1950)\, studied at Tamagawa University’s College of Arts before taking on an apprenticeship in the famous pottery town of Mashiko\, 60 miles north of the capital\, where his studio is still situated to this day. \nMatsuzaki was apprenticed to once Living National Treasure Tatsuzo Shimaoka\, himself the pupil of Living National Treasure Shoji Hamada\, arguably the most famous potter of the 20th century. Where a lesser artist might have suffocated under such influences\, Matsuzaki – like his teacher before him – has since established a ceramic voice distinctly and definitively his own. \nExtending far beyond the traditional boundaries of the town’s ‘Mashiko style’\, Matsuzaki has embraced Japan’s rich ceramic history and expanded into its wildly different pottery schools: from emerald green Oribe work to yellow Kiseto\, luscious pink and metallic gold Shino to his astonishing Yohen pots\, veiled in layers of natural ash that have built up over 10-day firings in Matsuzaki’s enormous climbing kiln. \nThe show opens at 10am. Join us at 1pm for fizz and a light lunch among Jenny’s paintings\, followed at 2pm by a short talk and book signing. \nDate: Saturday 29th November 2025 \nTime: 1pm for fizz and a light lunch. \n2pm Ken Matsuzaki in conversation. \nPlease RSVP by email or by telephone on 01572 821 424. \nCall for more details.

SUMMARY:Betty Blue Eyes – Stamford Arts Centre
DESCRIPTION:Following the hugely popular Miracle on 34th Street – the Musical last year\, College Players are delighted to be bringing Betty Blue Eyes (a very British musical comedy!) to Stamford. \nCollege Players Present \n‘Betty Blue Eyes’ a very British musical comedy \nThere’s a pig in the house…! \nFollowing the hugely popular Miracle on 34th Street -the Musical last year\, College Players are delighted to be bringing Betty Blue Eyes to Stamford. \nThe year is 1947\, Britain may have won the war\, but austerity is biting hard\, ration coupons are still in use and there are definitely not fair shares for all. \nIn a small Yorkshire town locals are determined to celebrate the Royal Wedding of Princess Elizabeth to Prince Philip with a banquet. Despite the antics of an over-zealous local government meat inspector\, the intention is to serve roast pork as the main course – at a very Private Function. \nEnter an adorable pig who is being secretly and illegally reared for the banquet\, whilst the locals make do with Spam. \nThis is a story full of eccentric yet lovable characters\, like Gilbert Chilvers – a humble chiropodist\, his wife Joyce – an ambitious piano teacher determined to be somebody\, and her constantly ravenous Mother. All dealing daily with an assortment of small town bullies\, spivs and snobs. But the star is undoubtedly Betty … the most endearing pig you’ll ever meet. \nBased on ALAN BENNETT’s film ‘A PRIVATE FUNCTION’ this musical is a delightful concoction of ‘make do and mend’\, heartwarming moments\, nostalgic songs\, a sprinkle of naughtiness\, and a dash of glamour. It will have you giggling\, tapping your toes and wondering why you’ve never seen it before. \nYou might even fall just a little bit in love …with a pig called Betty Blue Eyes!
