Sam Llewellyn\, acclaimed thriller writer and children’s author \nThere is something irresistible in the way Sid turns random detritus into objects of movement\, elegance and wit. Simon Beaufoy\, screenwriter\, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ \nThis will be 78 year old Sid Burnard’s 4th Goldmark show. His work is made from the jetsam he finds lying about on beaches\, riverbanks and hedges. What others may think of as junk Sid treats as precious cargo to fetch back to his studio\, study and play with\, until he finally and magically transforms them into a bird\, a beast\, an insect or a boat.

DESCRIPTION:The popular festival will be returning from 16-29 May 2026\, celebrating movement\, wellbeing and community across Rutland. \nWhat’s happening during Rutland Walking & Cycling Festival:\nWell\, the Rutland Round is back! with guided walks through beautiful local routes. Plus there will be a celebration of the Viking Way’s 50th Anniversary. \nMyBike collaboration event is set to giveaway free refurbished bikes and also to take away any unused or broken bikes to repair for the community. \nThere will be family-friendly activities\, opportunities to meet like-minded people and we will be spotlighting local services\, clubs and organisations around Rutland on our social media \nWhat’s on during the first week of Rutland Walking & Cycling Festival?\nThe first week features the much loved Rutland Round – a 65-mile circular route around the perimeter of the county\, with its start and finish in Oakham and a couple of detours to visit Rutland Water. The 65-mile walk will be split into six days and led by fantastic volunteer leaders who bring local knowledge\, encouragement and inspiration along the way. Limited transport will be available to return participants to start points (subject to availability). You can book to walk as many sections as you like or why not take on the challenge of the full Rutland Round. \nWhat’s on during the second week of Rutland Walking & Cycling Festival?\nThe second week shines a spotlight on the amazing local services\, clubs\, programmes\, and community groups that make Rutland thrive.
