There are many highly regarded sporting events in the county, including the International CiCLE Classic event in April, which attracts many spectators, as well as elite cyclists. Pacesetter Events run a calendar of runs/walks/swims/triathlons to set as your next challenge. Rutland Water offers a fantastic venue for triathlons and duathlons, not to mention sailing and fishing competitions, and there are popular horse trials held at Burghley and Rockingham.
Many local attractions have a full calendar of activity; Barnsdale Gardens and Rutland Water Nature Reserve never fail to offer an excellent programme, including vegetable growing, water colour painting, photography, dry stone walling, hedge laying, willow weaving and much more to suit many interests. Oakham’s market day is a Wednesday, and there is a Farmers Market on the third Saturday of the month. Uppingham & Stamford’s weekly market days are Friday. These markets create a lovely atmosphere in the towns and provide the chance to pick up local produce.
